It is Christ's treatment of the subject that dictates whether it is a part of Church theology / dogma, the OT is a great place for additional acknowledgement and history but to a christian it is not "the law"

But then what did Paul mean when he wrote this to Timothy:

Quote:
14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2 Timothy 3)

I would argue that he must be talking about the OT, because it's questionable whether the Gospels were written yet and even if they were, Timothy wouldn't have known them "from infancy."

I'm not sure what you mean by "the law," but according to Paul the OT is "useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training" and above all, it can "make you wise for salvation."

I would certainly agree that neither the OT or the NT should be taken as primarily an "instruction manual" in a legalistic sense. Their chief purpose is to create and sustain faith (that's what "wise unto salvation" means IMO).

The short answer is that Paul isn't Christ

I've been looking at 2 Tim 3 and there are differrences from one translation of the bible to the next.

I am not saying people shouldnt read or study the OT, there is alot of value in it and insights to be gained. What I am saying is that there is no legitimate theological basis for it in a Christian church.

No Christian theological basis in the OT? What about Isaiah's suffering servant?

Quote:
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
- Isaiah 53:5

It was my understanding that Jesus repudiated the "old laws" and this was taken to mean the OT. Since he did that no one was bound any longer to the OT.

That is what I understood the post to mean.
